I just received an email about Teacher Recruitment from the Arkansas Department of Education that might be of use to anyone considering a career in teaching. Although this information is specific to Arkansas, I’m sure other states are addressing similar concerns and might be worth checking into. Because over 4,100 Arkansans have recently lost their [...]

Chuck Colson addresses “The Peril of Disregarding the Past: Liberalism and Conservatism” in a recent daily email from his ministry Breakpoint. Colson quotes a report by a Harvard faculty committee which reads, “The aim of a liberal education…is to unsettle presumptions, to defamiliarize the familiar…[and] to disorient young people and to help them to find [...]

As a college student in the world of academia, you’re faced daily with conflicting messages and confrontational people. It’s easy to see how sensitive an issue defending your faith can be. College students and professors want to base their decisions on rational fact and scientific proof. Can this be done? How do we prepare to [...]

I had the chance to meet an ambassador of New Zealand yesterday. Except for wanting to ask him about middle earth and Frodo Baggins, I couldn’t think of anything intelligent to say, so I just listened as professors and students asked him about nuclear energy, global warming, free trade, and the Rainbow Warrior. I was surprised [...]

The New York Times recently featured an article on education entitled “Student Expectations Seen as Causing Grade Disputes.” The article discusses the phenomenon of students’ assumption that hard work should equate higher marks; they expect to receive good grades for simply doing the work, not excelling. The survey also [...]

I met with 6 Christian professors today. 2 are engineers. 3 educators. 1 an economist. We had an interesting discussion based on Dr. Joseph McRae Mellichamp’s book Ministering in the Secular University-A Guide for Christian Professors and Staff. It was nice to see how concerned they are about encouraging students during college and letting Christian students [...]

Especially in today’s times of economic uncertainty, making the most of your college experience often requires careful planning, pinched pennies, and creative resourcefulness. This past semester, I heard about a lady named Mary Hunt who writes books and articles on Debt-Proof Living and offers a daily email called “Everyday Cheapskate.” Whether you’re navigating life with [...]

Thanks to 6 students, 1 professor, and 1 staff member , Higher International, a non-profit whose primary aim is to develop spiritual leaders on college campuses, became  a Student Organization at the University of Arkansas this semester. I’m interested to see how our plans (see our initiatives) will play out this semester.
